Mom and Baby Yoga Classes

With Postnatal Midwife Support

Welcome to a Unique Postnatal  Experience led by an experienced practising midwife who is also a qualified Mom and Baby Specialist Yoga Teacher.

At Yummy Yoga Mummies I understand that the postnatal period is a time of significant change, both physically and emotionally for you and that’s why I’ve designed my Mom and Baby Yoga classes to support you on this journey with the added benefit of professional midwife support.

My classes are designed to help you regain your pre- pregnancy strength, bond with your baby, and connect with other new moms, all in a safe and nurturing environment.

What Are Mom and Baby Yoga Classes?

Mom and Baby Yoga is a specialized yoga practice tailored to meet the needs of new mothers and their babies.

These classes integrate yoga postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques that are gentle on your recovering postnatal body, allowing you to reintroduce physical activity at your own pace.

The sessions are baby-friendly, meaning you will interact with your little one during the practice with “Baby Yoga” moves alongside the “Mom Yoga” moves.

Each class is a blend of movement and mindfulness alongside fun and support for YOU!

What are the benefits of Mom and Baby Yoga?

Enhanced Physical Recovery:

I will focus on strengthening your core, pelvic floor, and back muscles, which are often weakened or strained from carrying your baby during pregnancy as well as from birth itself.

Promotes Relaxation:
The breathing exercises and gentle stretches will help you to reduce any stress or tension you may be encountering and will promote a sense of calm and well-being for you.

Facilitates Bonding:
By practicing yoga with your baby, you can nurture a deep connection with them, enhancing emotional bonds through touch, eye contact, and gentle play.

The Unique Advantage of Midwife Support:

What sets my Mom and Baby Yoga classes apart from the rest is the years of midwifery support and guidance that I can and will share with you at each and every class.

I teach every class personally and I will support you through this sometimes overwhelming adjustment period with my expert guidance and reassurance, ensuring that your postnatal experience is as smooth and supported as possible.

Here’s how midwife support will enhance your yoga experience:

Expert Guidance:
Midwives offer personalized advice on how to modify yoga poses to suit your individual recovery process. Whether you're dealing with diastasis recti (abdominal separation), pelvic floor issues, or general post-birth discomfort, I will ensure that your practice is safe and effective.

Postpartum Care:
Beyond the yoga practice, midwives are available to discuss any concerns you may have about your postpartum health with a much deeper knowledge and understanding in a professional and trusted manner, including healing from a cesarean section, managing postnatal bleeding, or addressing things such as breastfeeding challenges and emotional changes.

Emotional Support:
The transition to motherhood can be emotionally overwhelming. Having a midwife in the room provides a comforting presence, offering reassurance and support as you navigate the highs and lows of early motherhood.

Baby Care Advice:
Whether it's tips on soothing your baby, breastfeeding, or understanding your baby's cues, I am there as a midwife supporting you and offering practical advice that can make your life a little easier.

Benefits of Mom and Baby Yoga

My Mom and Baby Yoga classes provide a multitude of benefits that address both your physical and emotional needs during the postnatal period. Here’s how you and your baby can benefit:

Physical Recovery and Strengthening:

Core Rehabilitation:
Pregnancy often weakens the core muscles. My yoga sessions include gentle but effective exercises to rebuild strength in the abdominal area, promoting better posture and reducing back pain.

Pelvic Floor Health:
Special attention is given to the pelvic floor, a crucial area that supports your internal organs and affects overall body function. Strengthening these muscles can help alleviate incontinence and improve your quality of life.

Overall Body Conditioning:
Each session includes a balanced approach to strengthening and stretching various muscle groups, helping you regain overall body strength and flexibility.

Emotional and Mental Well-being:

Stress Relief:
The combination of physical movement and mindfulness techniques helps to reduce the stress and anxiety that are common during the postpartum period.

Mood Enhancement:
Regular participation in yoga can boost your mood and energy levels, combating feelings of fatigue and the postpartum blues and depression.

Mindful Bonding:
Practicing yoga with your baby encourages mindful interactions that deepen your bond, fostering a sense of closeness and security for both you and your baby.

Community and Social Support:

Building Connections:
My classes are a wonderful way to meet other new moms who are on a similar journey to you. Sharing your experiences, challenges, and triumphs with others can provide a sense of camaraderie and support and time is always allocated for this.

Safe Space for Discussion:
The presence of a midwife creates a safe and open environment where you can freely discuss postnatal worries and concerns, ask questions, and receive professional advice in a safe and confidential environment.

Baby’s Development and Well-being:

Motor Skills and Sensory Development:
Gentle movements, stretches, and interactions during yoga can stimulate your baby’s motor skills and sensory development, aiding in their growth and awareness of their body.

Emotional Security:
The calm and nurturing atmosphere of my yoga classes can help your baby feel more relaxed and secure, contributing to their emotional development.

Sleep Improvement:
Many parents find that the calming effects of yoga help their babies sleep better, both during and after class.

Flexibility and Adaptability in Practice:

Baby-Focued Approach:
As a midwife I fully understand that babies are unpredictable. Whether your little one needs to feed, sleep, or be changed, my classes are designed to accommodate these needs without stress or judgment.

Customised Modifications:
Every mother’s postnatal journey is different. I will work with you to modify poses and exercises, ensuring that you are comfortable and safe at all times.
